The third DTM race of the season on the 4.259-kilometre circuit began on Saturday afternoon in bright sunshine and temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius. Perera capitalised on his good starting position after qualifying in fourth place and kept a cool head in the Zandvoort heat. Thanks to a clever tactic, he returned to the track in third place after the performance pit stop. The Frenchman defended this position to the finish and celebrated his second podium in the third race. Bortolotti also benefited from a good strategy: after starting sixth on the grid, the 33-year-old moved up to fourth place thanks to an earlier pit stop and rounded off the Lamborghini racing team's convincing result. Deledda, who is part of the Lamborghini junior squad, improved by three positions and finished the race in 24th place.
On Sunday, the weather on the Dutch North Sea coast was once again at its best: the track temperature climbed to 47 degrees Celsius. Bortolotti and Perera made the most of their experience on the dune circuit with its up to 19-degree bends. Bortolotti gradually worked his way up from 19th on the grid as the sprint race progressed. In the end, the Italian saw the chequered flag in eleventh place. Perera fought his way through the field from 18th on the grid. The DTM race winner from Oschersleben secured more points with 13th place and is in second place in the drivers' championship after the second event of the season. Deledda from Italy had to park his Lamborghini in the pits early after technical problems.
"The result on Saturday was phenomenal. We were the only team to finish in the top five with two drivers. We were extremely pleased with the result. Over the course of the weekend, we were able to gain further insights that we will work on. The DTM is not a sure-fire success, it's hard work. It is important that we analyse the data we have collected and constantly improve. Despite the fact that we are starting this season with a new manufacturer, the entire crew is getting better and better," said team owner Stefan Schlund. After the successful season opener with Perera's victory in Oschersleben, the team can now add another DTM trophy to the display case of the high-performance workshop in Munich.
A total of 24,000 spectators watched the motorsport festival on the Dutch North Sea coast. The third DTM stop of the season from 7 to 9 July at the Norisring will be a very special one for SSR Performance: the Lamborghini racing team will be contesting its home race on the spectacular street circuit in Nuremberg. "As a native of Franconia, the race at the Norisring is the highlight of the season for me, but also for the company. It will be a very emotional event for all of us," explained Stefan Schlund.
